ReferralCandy

A referral program is a marketing campaign used by businesses to encourage customers to refer their friends to the business to increase sales. LimeLight has integrated with ReferralCandy, an ecommerce store plugin that helps businesses get more word of mouth sales.

The LimeLight - ReferralCandy integration tracks referred purchases, automatically notifies advocates when rewards are earned, applies a discount when a friend purchases and issue rewards to the Referrer automatically for qualified purchases.

GETTING STARTED

  • You need to sign up for a ReferralCandy account. When you sign up, select platform type as ‘Your Custom Website’ and proceed with the account registration process.

Customers: There are 3 main types of customers and it's important to understand the distinction between each type as described in the referral program:

  1. Advocates - An individual who has been enrolled into your referral program. This individual is sent a unique referral link to share with their friends.
  2. Customers - An individual who has made a purchase at your store. This person might or might not be an advocate, and they might or might not be a referred friend.
  3. Referred Friends - An individual who is sent an advocate's referral link.

CONFIGURATION of Coupons in LimeLight

  1. Create a non-expiring, single use coupon that will be used by your checkout page to give a discount to referred friends who are checking out with a promo link.

  2. Advocate Reward Coupons can either be:
    1. Single Use Coupons - If using this coupon method, create at least 500 coupon codes in LimeLight to support the defined reward
    2. Multiple Use Coupons - You can define a single coupon code that can be used
Refer to this help center article about coupon creation.

Best practices for coupon fraud prevention:

  1. Set an expiration date for your discount coupons.
  2. Periodically change the coupon codes that are used in your campaigns.
  3. Ensuring discount coupon amounts are set in a way that you still benefit from every purchase made.
  4. Limit the use of referral coupons to new customers only. This can be done by checking the email address or shipping address of the customer against your database of past customers. If it happens to be an existing customer, display a message on the checkout screen indicating that the referral coupon only applies to new customers.

CONFIGURATION of your Checkout Page

*Please note that a developer is needed to perform the following steps*

  1.  Make sure to send the ‘referrer_id’ parameter in the ‘NewOrder’ request to allow advocate to receive credit for the referral. The referrer_id comes from the ‘aic’ parameter in the URL of the promo link that forwards to the checkout page.

  2.  To issue a discount to customers who are purchasing via an advocate’s promo link, you must use:

    • Implement a ‘non expiring, single use coupon’ in a hidden field on your checkout page.
    • Send the ‘promoCode’ parameter in the 'NewOrder' request for LimeLight to apply the discount on the first order of the advocate’s friend.
    • Only use the hidden field when a ‘referrer_id’ is present

If a plan includes Trial period, will the Referrer/advocate receive the reward on Trial sign-up?

* An advocate will receive a reward email after the 1 day review period of a qualified purchase being made.
* A customer will receive their own referral link email immediately after purchase

* A customer using an advocate’s promo link to purchase will receive a discount immediately upon checkout.

Example B:  ‘Purchase Review Period’ has been set to 1 day and reward type is ‘Cash’
* An advocate will receive a reward email after the 1 day review period of a qualified purchase being made, however they will not receive their cash payment until You (the Retailer) have successfully paid the monthly invoice containing the packaged cash rewards and associated transaction fees.

* A customer will receive their own referral link email immediately after purchase

* A customer using an advocate’s promo link to purchase will receive a discount immediately upon checkout

I'm using multiple LimeLight campaigns. How can I manage a referral program across campaigns?

LimeLight configuration allows for 1 or many campaigns to be associated to a single ReferralCandy account. If your LimeLight campaigns are configured with different currencies, you would need multiple ReferralCandy accounts. One for each currency.
